In a recent interview with Digit on International Women’s Day, Salone Sehgal, Founder and Managing Partner at Lumikai, had shared her perspective on the evolving role of women in India’s gaming and interactive media industry. As the world’s first female General Partner in a gaming-focused venture fund, Sehgal had spoken about shaping the future of digital entertainment through targeted investments and inclusive leadership.

She had outlined the growing influence of female gamers, who now make up 44% of India’s 591M gamer base, and emphasized the opportunity in building immersive, women-centric experiences. Sehgal had discussed key trends such as AI-driven development, short-form video, and creator-led monetization, while also noting common challenges for founders—such as unsustainable capital use and lack of focus on core metrics like retention and engagement.

She had also highlighted Lumikai’s ‘Pathbreakers’ initiative, which has featured over 100 women shaping India’s gaming sector. Her message underscored the need for diversity, thoughtful design, and agility to drive the next phase of innovation in interactive media. You can read the entire interview here.
